In Abidjan, two key initiatives aimed at accelerating digital transformation in Côte d’Ivoire were presented. These initiatives are supported by the Italian Government and coordinated by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), aligning with the vision of the Mattei Plan for Africa.
The Digital Flagship for Africa is an initiative involving four countries—Senegal, Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, and Mozambique—to establish a strengthened partnership with Italy. Its goals include improving connectivity, developing public digital systems, and catalyzing innovative ecosystems in key sectors such as agriculture, health, climate, and e-commerce.
The Digital Readiness Assessment (DRA) is a strategic tool designed to identify key technical and policy priorities in Côte d’Ivoire’s digital sector. Based on a 96-question survey targeting local experts and stakeholders, this study provides a structured approach to prioritize fundable projects.
The presentation event took place during a ceremony organized by UNDP in collaboration with the Ministry of Digital Transformation and Digitalization and the Italian Embassy in Côte d’Ivoire. The theme was: “Accelerating Digital Transformation for an Inclusive and Connected Côte d’Ivoire.”
The Ivorian Minister of Digital Transition and Digitalization emphasized the government’s commitment to making digital transformation a strategic priority. “Although this is just a step, it embodies a vision: that of a Côte d’Ivoire firmly committed to digital transformation, as outlined by President Alassane Ouattara,” said Ibrahim Kalil Konaté.
Italian Ambassador Arturo Luzzi expressed his ambition to establish a strategic partnership with the Ministry of Digital Transformation and Digitalization, involving Italian companies in the digital innovation sector. “Our goal is to collaborate to ensure that digital technology becomes a driver of sustainable and inclusive development,” he stated.
Aldo Cera, Focal Point for the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS), highlighted Italy’s strategic commitment to supporting Côte d’Ivoire’s development. He announced the imminent opening of a regional office in Côte d’Ivoire and emphasized Italy’s support for the country’s digital ambitions.
The pilot project for digital development in West Africa, funded by the Italian Government, aims to catalyze transformative digital development opportunities in Côte d’Ivoire. It leverages Italian expertise and funding to enhance connectivity in rural and remote areas, ensure equitable access to digital connectivity infrastructure, and promote the development of public digital systems.
