The project “Greening the Future of Rural Communities in Vulnerable Areas in Upper Egypt,” funded by the Italian Cooperation, is supporting the production capacity of Beekeepers in Effwa Village Beni Suef Governorate – though the delivery of 800 modern beehives and a dedicated programme of technical training.

The activity is carried out within the framework of the One Productive Village Initiative and is designed to advance Sustainable Development Goal 2 (Zero Hunger) and Goal 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), reinforcing food security and durable livelihoods across Upper Egypt.

Rather than a one-time equipment handover, the intervention is built around sustained partnership: productive assets are paired with technical assistance, hands-on coaching, and continuous field monitoring, so that gains in production translate into lasting capacity.

Experts from the Agricultural Research Center (ARC) and CIHEAM Bari are delivering training on modern beekeeping practices, hive management, pest and disease control, and honey quality improvement — together contributing to the revitalization of Upper Egypt’s bee products value chain.

This support continues beyond the initial handover: beneficiaries will receive ongoing technical coaching, field monitoring, and advisory support throughout the production cycle, to ensure sound hive management and sustained productivity.

Greening the Future of Rural Communities in Vulnerable Areas in Upper Egypt” is is funded by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI) through the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS), implemented by the International Centre for Advanced Mediterranean Agronomic Studies (CIHEAM Bari), in partnership with Egypt’s Agricultural Research Center (ARC) and Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation (MALR).
