Biography
Leonardo Carmenati is a career Senior Executive in the Italian public administration (appointed in 2008). He graduated from Sapienza University of Rome and holds a Master’s degree in Business & Administration. With extensive experience in the humanitarian and international cooperation sector, he has held senior leadership roles within the Italian Red Cross.
He also worked at the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) as Head of Migration Response for Europe.
In February 2018, he joined AICS – the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation, where he served until September 2025 as Deputy Director responsible for the Technical Directorate. During this period, he also acted as Acting Director of the Agency from April 2018 to May 2019 and from June 2023 to December 2023.
He currently serves as Special Advisor at FAO.
