The Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS) is participating this year in “Italy-Africa – SPeRA Conference,” the annual event organized by the counterpart Consortium that brings together over 50 volunteer associations working in Africa across the social, education, construction, and health sectors, aiming to foster dialogue and collaboration. The program will particularly feature testimonies on fieldwork from five AICS offices in Africa, focusing on dialogue with universities, civil society, and African institutions.
The conference will open on June 11 with a speech by Marco Riccardo Rusconi, Director of AICS, who will introduce the work and role of “Italian Cooperation today” in Africa and within the framework of the Mattei Plan.
On June 12, during the session dedicated to “Italian Universities in Africa,” AICS Cairo will participate alongside the University of Sassari to present the project “Support for the Improvement of Medical and Nursing Care in Egypt.” Active since 2015 and now in its third phase, the Italian Cooperation project involves Egyptian hospital facilities in specialized training, bone marrow transplants, and pediatric screenings. The project is funded under Article 24 of Law 125/2014 and involves collaboration with prestigious Italian partners.
On June 13, the session “Italian Cooperation” aims to provide an overview of the Agency’s operations within the strategic guidelines set by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, financing instruments, and collaborations with Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), with a focus on the essential role of foreign offices. This will be followed by presentations from four AICS offices in Africa (Nairobi, Maputo, Tunisia, Dakar).
