From October 13 to 17, Milan will host the Global Forum of the Milan Urban Food Policy Pact (MUFPP), the most important international event dedicated to urban food policies, promoted by the Municipality of Milan, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI), the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS), and Fondazione Cariplo, in collaboration with the University of Milan and YesMilano. The 2025 edition celebrates the tenth anniversary of the Milan Pact, signed in 2015 during Expo, and will bring together over 500 delegates from more than 330 signatory cities worldwide.

The Forum serves as a global laboratory for sharing best practices and building alliances, with the aim of developing urban food systems that are healthy, sustainable, and inclusive. Over the five days, participating cities, together with international organizations and networks such as FAO, WFP, UNEP, the European Commission, World Bank, C40, and ICLEI, will discuss key topics including food security, sustainable production and distribution, the fight against waste and poverty, agroecology, innovation in school meal systems, and the role of youth and women.

The program includes four plenary sessions, twelve parallel thematic sessions, six geographic sessions, as well as study visits to key sites in Milan’s food system and side events linked to European projects such as AfriFOODlinks, Cleverfood, Cultivate, and School Food 4 Change. Among the highlights, the Milan Pact Awards 2025 ceremony at the Piccolo Teatro Studio Melato will recognize the best practices of cities in the six categories of the Pact.

For Italian Cooperation, the Forum represents a strategic opportunity to consolidate its commitment to urban food systems: “Cities today are the meeting point for many of the main development challenges, but also places where innovation and effective solutions emerge. We are proud to support, together with the Municipality of Milan, the Milan Urban Food Policy Pact and to contribute to the development of healthier, more inclusive, and sustainable urban food systems,” said Marco Riccardo Rusconi, Director of AICS.

The Forum will take place in several iconic locations across the city, including the University of Milan, Palazzo Reale, Palazzo Marino, and Assolombarda, with moments dedicated to tasting local products and promoting short and sustainable supply chains. The lunch on October 16, on the occasion of World Food Day, will involve the mayors of countries participating in the ‘Cities Feeding the Future Initiative’, promoting the exchange of best practices among cities worldwide.
