AICS has inaugurated its new project office in Accra, Ghana, which will operate under the responsibility of the Ouagadougou Office, consolidating the Agency’s presence in the country and strengthening dialogue with local institutions and partners.
Already present in Ghana since 2021, AICS is further strengthening its engagement in a country that has been a priority for Italian Development Cooperation since 2024 and was included in the Mattei Plan in 2025.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by AICS Director Marco Riccardo Rusconi, Italy’s Ambassador to Ghana, H.E. Laura Ranalli, and Emanuela Forcella, Head of the Ouagadougou Office. Other participants included the Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture, Emelia Arthur; the Minister for Youth, George Opare Addo; the Deputy Minister for Education, Clement Abas Apaak; a representative of the Secretariat for the 24-Hour Economy; and the European Union Ambassador to Ghana, Rune Skinnebach.
The event also brought together heads of cooperation from partner countries, representatives of United Nations agencies, civil society organisations, academia and the private sector.
The opening of the new office marks a further step in strengthening AICS’s presence in Africa, where the Agency operates through 10 offices and is active in 24 countries, including through local project offices.
The new office will help intensify engagement with Ghanaian institutions, cooperation partners and local communities, fostering new opportunities for collaboration and development. This stronger local presence will also help leverage AICS’s expertise in managing European Union delegated cooperation programmes, further consolidating the Agency’s role as a key partner in international development cooperation.
