The Agreement for the project “Strengthening the private sector through capacity building and international partnerships in Uganda” was signed at the Italian Embassy in Kampala. The initiative is funded by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI) through the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS), with a contribution of €1.7 million, and is implemented by UNIDO.
The main objective of the initiative is to strengthen the local private sector in Uganda through tailored business services and capacity building for entrepreneurs, leveraging international partnerships.
The Ambassador of Italy to Uganda, Mauro Massoni, emphasized:“With the opening of the AICS office in Kampala, a new phase begins for Italian Cooperation in Uganda: a path that strengthens the partnership between our two countries and decisively focuses on the development of youth and women entrepreneurship.”
The initiative aligns with the strategy of the Mattei Plan, launched by the Italian Government, and shares the same spirit as the Global Gateway promoted by the European Union, also aiming to seize the opportunities linked to the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).The project is also fully in line with the priorities of the Ugandan Government, which is committed to promoting a structural transformation of the country through industrialization, agricultural modernization, private sector development, skills enhancement, export promotion, and improvement of services, as outlined in Uganda Vision 2040 and the National Development Plan IV (NDPIV).
