In Florence, on Friday, October 10, at Cinema La Compagnia, the Middle East Now festival will host the screening of Voices from Bamyan, a reflection on the social and territorial transformations that have taken place in that Afghan city.

The docufilm, produced by the University of Florence (Department of SAGAS-LaGeS) and the Milan-based artistic research group Studio Azzurro, was created within the framework of a project funded by the Italian Cooperation, aimed at supporting the redevelopment of informal settlements in Bamyan and Herat.

Following the screening, there will be a panel discussion moderated by Laura Silvia Battaglia and Giuseppe Alizzi, focusing on the fragile and complex path Afghanistan has followed over the past two decades. Speakers will include Michelangelo Sangiorgi (Studio Azzurro), Mirella Loda (LaGeS – UNIFI), and a video contribution by the Italian Ambassador to Kabul, Sabrina Ugolini.

Below is the video installation on the cultural landscape of Bamyan, created by the same team for the Bamiyan Cultural Centre.
