The AICS Office in Islamabad, which also covers Afghanistan, has approved two emergency relief interventions under the “Multisectoral Programme to Support the Resilience of Vulnerable Populations in Afghanistan.” The aim is to provide concrete assistance to communities affected by the powerful earthquake that struck the provinces of Nangarhar and Kunar on August 31.
The first project, promoted by WeWorld-GVC, provides multisectoral assistance focused on meeting basic needs, with particular attention to the Shelter (emergency housing) and WASH (water, sanitation, and hygiene) sectors.
The second intervention, developed by the Pangea ETS Foundation in partnership with Vento di Terra ETS-VDT, aims to deliver an integrated response that includes protection and health services, WASH activities, and measures to safeguard crops in the areas of Dar-e-Noor (Nangarhar Province) and Chawkay (Kunar Province).
Activities will begin by mid-October 2025 and will last for four months, targeting several locations: Arat, Shomash, and Chawkey in Kunar Province, and Dar-i-Nur in Nangarhar Province.
The two emergency interventions, with a total funding of 900,000 euros, are part of the aid package allocated under initiative AID 013073/01/0, approved by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, within the framework of Italy’s commitments in response to the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan.
